Jordan Laser 4s

Jordan released one of its most anticipated colorways, the Jordan 4 Laser as part of its 30th anniversary releases. It was released globally on March 21st, 2015. Air Jordan 4 Lasers feature a white base with a solid pattern of silver laser etchings that blend in with its intricate metallic chrome detailing.

If you look at the tribal etchings closely you will see that hidden in the pattern are references to; Michael Jordan’s accomplishments, other AJ sneakers, and MJ stats. The engravings weren’t the same on all sneakers. Some people were lucky enough to score a pair that had Michael Jordan’s face hidden in the engravings on the toe box. Some other shoes had just half of his face hidden in the tribal markings.

The Air Jordan 4 Laser was one of the most anticipated colorways of 2015. It was originally priced at $190 and dropped on February 8th. Today the Laser 4s are for sale online at eBay and they are currently in good supply. Prices range from $90 to $250, depending partially on the condition and if the original box is included.

In terms of popularity on the resale market, it ranks behind the Toro Bravo, Breds, and White Cement 4s but ahead of the Oreo, Doernbecher, and Green Glow 4s.

Laser collection

The Air Jordan 4 Laser was part of a three sneaker Air Jordan Retro Laser pack. All three shoes had the same design; all white with metallic chrome laser etchings and a translucent blue outsole. The first shoe from the collection to be released was the Air Jordan 1 Retro High, followed by the AJ XX, followed by the Air Jordan IV.

Black Laser 4s

When sneakerheads talk about the Jordan 4 Laser colorway they almost always mean the white and metallic silver colorway that was released in 2015. However, there is also a black Laser Jordan 4. This is a rare colorway that was released way back in 2005 and has been largely forgotten.

The only people who seem to remember the Black Laser Retro 4 are sneaker collectors. An authentic pair goes for sale on eBay once or twice a month where prices are always over $300 and it is not unusual for prices to reach over $500.

White and Varsity Red

Another rare Jordan Retro Laser 4 is this black, white, and Varsity Red colorway. The sneakers were a Jumpman23.com exclusive and cost $200. The white and varsity red Laser 4 is the hardest to find, although it does come up for sale on eBay from time to time. When you track them down expect to spend $400 to secure a pair.

Release and History

Tinker Hatfield is the designer behind the Air Jordan 4 series. He is an architect by profession and started working on sneakers after his early success. He has designed the Air Jordan 3-15, the Nike Air Max 1, and the Nike Roshe Run, to name only a few highlights. He came up with the idea for Air Jordan 4 in 1989. His aim was above all to improve the performance of the Air Jordan 3.

This wasn’t the first AJ sneaker to feature a laser engraving pattern. In 2003 the Jordan III had the honour of having the first laser colorway. The white shoe had intricate gold patterns covering part of the upper. The white and black AJ III Retro was one of the shoes released to mark MJ’s fortieth birthday.

In 2004 a sample of a light brown, ‘chutney’, AJ IV surfaced. The pattern of the laser etchings was closer to what eventually made it onto the IVs, not like the intricate patterns on the previous year’s AJ III release. This ultra rare pair were an unreleased edition made for MJ’s birthday.

AJ IV Prices

Originally the Air Jordan 4s retailed for $110. During 1999-2000, they sold for a price of $100. In 2005, a collaboration between Jordan and Undefeated retailed for $1500-$2000. A black colorway of the Laser IV which retailed for $175 was also released later that year.

Celebrity sightings

A large number of celebrities have been spotted wearing the Jordan Laser 4s and other laser pack sneakers. Some of these celebrities include; Chris Brown, Pecas Costner, Lecrae, Tyreke Evans, and Rick Ross. DJ Khaled was pictured repeatedly wearing his pair of Retro Lasers.

A-list actor Jake Gyllenhaal was seen in the Air Jordan 1 Laser. Other well known faces that shared his taste in shoes included; Nate Robinson and DJ Envy.

There have also been some sightings of the black laser colorway. Anybody, famous or not, who is spotted in a pair of black lasers, is a confirmed sneakerhead. In 2015 Travis Scott was pictured wearing a pair while talking to Kanye West. Also in 2015, Kid Cudi was seen wearing his pair while hosting a party in Las Vegas. Other black lasers fans include; Trinidad James, JAY-Z, Russell Westbrook, and Ludacris.

In depth

The Jordan 4 laser has a silver midsole and a translucent icy blue outsole which is unusually sticky unlike other models released before. The leather on the shoe is Nubuck which is softer than the leather used in previous Jordans. The entire toe box is covered in one piece of leather without any patches which gives it a smooth coherent look. There is no stitching on the toe box area which is cleanly embossed

The mesh is a clear white on white. The heel tab on the back is made of plastic which you can push up and down. It doesn’t have the flight symbol and shows the Jordan Jump symbol instead.

Inside the shoe there is a grey insole with a square ’30’ logo stamped on the heel. Of course, this is because the laser pack was released to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Jordan signature sneaker line. The inside of the shoe has Retro 4 written backwards along with the product codes. Down below, there is the air unit.

The shoe came with a silver on orange plastic Jordan tag with a Jumpman on it. The back of the shoe also features the Jordan Jumpman Logo which looks great on a white background.
